Our story and philosophy
Children learn by doing
At LSU, children learn by doing, not just by watching and listening. They explore at their own pace in areas that interest them, and we care more about the process than a perfect finished product, because that is how confidence and curiosity grow.
Where did the name come from?
[The story behind “Lil’ Sneakers University”: who founded LSU, when, and why.]
What do we believe about how children learn?
- Hands-on, active learning. Children build, pour, paint, climb and test ideas with their hands.
- Process over product. A painting that turned out muddy taught a child how colors mix. We celebrate that.
- Their own pace. Children choose among learning centers and go deep on what interests them.
- The whole child. Creative experiences build mental, physical and emotional growth together.
How does this connect to Ohio's standards?
LSU's lessons are aligned with Ohio's Early Learning and Development Standards, a requirement of the state's Step Up To Quality program. Teachers plan around each child's needs and track progress over time.
