Who is this program for?

Infant care is for babies from 6 weeks old until they are steady walkers around 18 months. Most families start when parental leave ends, so we plan your baby's first week with you: a short visit, then shorter days, then a full schedule.

Babies need the same faces every day. Your baby has a primary caregiver who learns their cues, how they like to be held and how they fall asleep.

How do you keep children safe?

LSU meets or beats Ohio's infant ratios: one caregiver for every five babies under 12 months, and one for every six from 12 to 18 months.

  • Babies sleep on their backs, alone, in their own crib with nothing else inside.
  • Bottles are labeled with your baby's name and date and checked before every feeding.
  • Shoes come off in the infant room, and toys that go in mouths are sanitized daily.
  • Only adults on your authorized list can pick up your baby.

Who will teach my child?

Your child's lead teacher is a licensed instructor who knows every child in the room by name and keeps learning every year.

[Lead teacher name] has worked at LSU for [X] years. You will meet them on your tour.

Infant Care questions parents ask

What is the staff-to-child ratio in the infant room?

Ohio requires at least one caregiver for every five babies under 12 months (or two caregivers for twelve babies in one room) and one caregiver for every six children from 12 to 18 months. LSU meets or beats these ratios at all times, including at drop-off and nap time.

How does LSU keep sleeping babies safe?

Babies sleep on their backs, alone, in a crib with a firm, flat mattress and nothing else inside, following American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep guidance. Teachers check on sleeping babies regularly and log every check.

Can I bring breast milk or formula from home?

Yes. Bring labeled breast milk or formula and bottles each day, and teachers feed your baby on your baby's own schedule. You get a written record of feedings, diapers and naps every day.

What should I pack for my baby?

Labeled bottles, diapers, wipes, diaper cream and two changes of clothes. The director gives you the full list at enrollment, and you can ask about anything on your tour.
